EYELID SURGERY – Windows To The Soul
Windows To The Soul
It is often said that the eyes are like windows to the soul. In reality, your eyes may not always adequately represent the youthfulness of your soul. You may frequently have people asking you if you are tired, sad, or stressed out. They may wonder if you’re not feeling well or if you suffer from allergies.
In fact, maybe you really are tired or sad, but fortunately you don’t always have to look like it. A very small change in the eyelids can create a tremendous change in your outward appearance, and in how people react to you.
Using different techniques, eyelid surgery can remove excess eyelid skin, pockets of bulging fat, and under eye “bags”. It can repair torn or damaged muscle, provide a more youthful lower eyelid contour, and create an upper eyelid crease in people of Asian descent. For some, removing upper eyelid skin or repairing the eyelid muscle can also improve vision or function of the eyes.
Eyelid surgery can be done at any age, but is most common after age 40. Upper eyelid fullness in the late 20s, 30s, or even 40s may actually be due to lowering of the forehead and eyebrows, and not excess eyelid skin. In this case, a brow lift is the preferred treatment.
Eyelid surgery can remove excess skin, but will not change the quality of the skin itself. For lines and wrinkles, a chemical peel or laser resurfacing may also be performed. Blepharoplasty does not prevent crow’s feet or frowning; Botox injections are the preferred treatment for those concerns.
